July 28 Legion Centennial Day Rockland County

The John M. Perry American Legion Post #1044 is holding a ceremony July 28 to honor the memory of the post’s namesake on the centennial of his death near Belleau, France. The post is inviting reenactors to participate in the ceremonies and provide living history about World War I for the public at its post in Sparkill, in the town of Orangetown, Rockland County, New York. Sparkill is 6 miles south of the Tappan Zee Bridge.

Private John M. Perry, Machine Gun Company, 165th Infantry Regiment (former Fighting 69th Regiment), 42nd Division. Died 30 July 1918. Interred Plot A, Row 9, Grave 59, Aisne-Marne American Cemetery, Belleau, France.

Request is to provide an AEF uniformed color guard detail (3-4 members) and small table displays representing the AEF in France.

28 July 2018, at 1200 hrs report to Post 1044 to participate in the ceremony. Small table displays are authorized. At 1300 the ceremony will commence. Arrive at 1200 to provide time for set up and coordinate the movements for the ceremony. Ceremony is 45-60 minutes.

Chow will be provided by the post. Additionally a number of top quality restaurants are in the area. There will be no honorarium. POC is Vinnie Brennan.

Directions:
1) From the GWB; take the Palisades Interstate Parkway North to Exit 4; Make a left on Rt 9W North; drive to the stop light and make a left onto Oak Tree Rd; follow Oak Tree Rd to the bottom of the hill and at the stop light make a right on to Rt 340; travel approx 1/8 of a mile and the Post is on your right.

2) From points North; Take the Palisades Interstate Parkway South to Exit 4; Make a left on Rt 9W North; drive to the stop light and make a left onto Oak Tree Rd; follow Oak Tree Rd to the bottom of the hill and at the stop light make a right on to Rt 340; travel approx 1/8 of a mile and the Post is on your right.
